Yet another version of my forced Modazz t-shirt. I was completely starved for ideas on how to wear it last night when coming up with my outfit and eventually came up with this. Surprisingly, a lot of people actually said they really liked it. Specifically, as we were all descending the stairs to our locker rooms, our dance teacher was waiting there to see who had remembered their shirts and, as I walked by, she said, "Oh, there's Lizzy with her own unique twist." Exactly what I was going for!

Lace that Immitates Eggshells

I spent the majority of today simultaneously breaking in a pair of new ballet flats and skinning the backs of my heels off until I could barely walk. I love these new shoes (besides the great pain they have put me in) because they somehow resemble oxfords and ballet flats at the same time, giving them a sort of effortless classiness. They were actually bought to replace my blue rocket dog flats that have been torn apart and soiled past the point of repair, which I must admit is sad. We must move on however!

Videos That I Have Enjoyed Lately

I just thought it might be nice to share some of the videos on youtube that have been haunting the screen on my computer lately. Some are musical, some comical, some spectacularly beautiful. Best of all, some are a combination of all.

This was the first thing I ever saw by Stromae and I thought it was terrible. I was incredibly prejudiced against hip hop and rap music, french or not. But, as we went through the lyrics and started to translate, I slowly discovered the melancholy beauty that lay behind its tough sound and violent images. The line that really gets me is "je l'aime a mort," which means "I love it to death." Don't we all feel like that about something in our lives? A love that is desperate and unhealthy yet we just can't help ourselves and we continue to live with it day after day? It's little things like that I can't help but aime a mort.

These next two are done by one of my favorite directors Alma Har'el. The "Elephant Gun" one is how I discovered her and the other one I think is just lovely. I am adicted to the dance styles she always uses. I often feel like my choreography aspires to be as good as what she uses equally to how I aspire to Martha Graham's.

This is an interview and song by Beirut where he sings in Portugese and it's absolutely beautiful. There's actually a lot more where he talks about random stuff like how he has a lot of comic books and his dog is gorgeous, etc etc. but all I could find on youtube (the other one's on vimeo which I don't know how to put on here) is the short version.

This is Tim Nordwind and Dan Konopka of Ok Go acting out a scene from Star Wars. I just think it's really funny.

Bits of White Engulfed in Black

My International Baccelaureate English class is making me a tad insane when it comes annalizing everything. I just typed my little made up title for this outfit while looking at my skirt and my mind immediately, on its own, came up with a deeper meaning to the phrase. Oh! The darkness that dominates the skirt represents the dark times that we all live in and the little speckles of white represent the tiny little pieces of hope that we must cling to. They bring character to the skirt rather than if it was just all black. One must also realize that the darkness of the skirt brings character to it as well, rather than if it was all white. Therefore, in one's life, we need both edges of the spectrum: despair and hope. Their contrast is what keeps us interested in this life. I just found the true meaning of polka dots (just kiding).

Doctor Who

Today the british tv show Doctor Who starts its new season on BBC America and I am exceedingly excited. I am somewhat of a nerd and dressed up in a bunch of subtle accolades for it. I wore blue because the Doctor travels around in a big blue box. I wore a flapper feather because he travels thorugh time. I wore converse (besides just the fact that my mother thinks they're better for my damaged foot) because the Doctor often wears converse himself. Later today we will also be eating fish fingers and custard (fish sticks and pudding) because, after the Doctor regenerated from David Tennant to Matt Smith, the only food he found that he liked was just that. I am excited.

J'ai Besoin d'Aide! S'il Vous Plait!

Can some wonderful blogger who know how to do things help me with a couple issues? I know this is kind of probably an ineffective way of asking but I'll give it a try.

1. How do you add links to the top of your page to posts. Like, if I want to add a tab that'll take you to all of my outfit posts or favorite thing posts or something?

2. How do you add those three little squares beneath your posts about related posts in the past?

I will love you forever if you can help me at all!

If it Clashes...

Today, when I walked into my french class, one of my friends immediately sprung the question of what one must do to wear a patterned shirt and patterned tie at the same time onto me. A surprisingly heated discussion insued. She thought that they would have to be similar and sedate for it to work, like a very lightly striped tie with a very lightly striped shirt. I am a firm believer for mixing patterns (especially where one is engulfed in the other like a tie is to a shirt) the two should be extremely different so that, in their clashing, a strange sense of "matching" emmerges. If the two patterns are too similar, it looks like a mistake, or perhaps a hint at dullness. With a blatant disregard for the accepted form of patterns paired with solids, I believe it looks clever and overtly artistic. Although, I might have just taken this stance since I happened to be wearing mismatched patterns today!

PS sorry I didn't post my t-shirt reinvention yesterday. I hurt my toe pretty decently in dance yesterday and had to go get an x-ray which took several hours!
PSS I joined a club today that has similar day of the week restrictions for clothing as my dance class. It is called "Daughters of Athena" and it was basically invented to counteract a snooty club found by the guys in our class called "The League of Gentlemen" where they dress up in suits certain days of the week. I know they are planning to have "Fancy Fridays", which sounds wonderful and I will definitely participate, and "Toga Tuesdays" that will somehow be made to fit the dresscode, which I will probably not dress up for. I know it's rather a silly club but I like the idea of the expression of power through embrassing our feminity rather than in spite of it.

Il Est Frickin' Chaud

It is extremely hot in Arizona at the moment, as I suppose it must be everywhere right now. I guess it's only really about 108 (it's rather sad that 108 doesn't sound that bad) but the air conditioning at my school isn't doing very well  so it feels much worse than usual. Today, our school had to be "evactuated" immediately after the bell rang and I didn't get to go to dance club but instead to my burning hot car (recently, it has given my hands thrid degree burns by the way)!

On a side note, I have no idea what this giant piece of wood is. Right now, my dad is building a bed frame for my parents (cool, no?) and I just wandered outside to find this leaning against the wall!

Tools of the Trade

I suppose I am somewhat of a minimalist when it comes to what it takes for me to run this here blog. As part of Independent Fashion Bloggers' Project No. 10, however, I have been carefully considering what I fill this portion of my life with and what it takes to keep it going!\

My camera
My tripod
My computer
My makeup
And, most importantly, my clothes!

Speckles of Light

I had to take my brother to cello lessons yesterday and decided to bring my camera and tripod along, which was, to be completely honest, rather horribly embarassing. Those strange geometric windows that line the hallways, leaving perfect little rows of light across the concrete, are just so strangely beautiful, though, I had to take some pictures there eventually!

Also, on a side note, one of my mom's friends from Oklahoma sent me an email about how they used to dress in the 80s! It instnatly reminded me of the book My Mom, the Style Icon. Oh the women that were stylish before any of us were even born!

Blue Skies

Perfectly blue skies have resurfaced after a blessed few of gray. I must say I'm a little disappointed. Imperfection just has so much more character to it than society's widely accepted notions of beauty. I suppose I will just have to put up with this "perfect" weather for another year or so and then it's off to college somewhere beautifully gray and stormy!
